A series of extraordinary archaeological finds those carried out in this summer 2023 which brought to light structures, finds of great historical, cultural, anthropological and artistic value which further enrich our Italian heritage.

Precious finds in Sicily

Sicily, also from an archaeological point of view, is configured as the Italian region in which many important archaeological discoveries have been made in various sites: Agrigento, Segesta, Selinunte, Tripi. With regard to the latter, a Greek Sicilian city in the province of Messina, Archaeological excavations they have brought to light its architecture, monuments and artifacts. Thanks to the interest of the Municipality of Tripi, the area is now a Archaeological Park.

In Selinunte

The Sicilian city of Selinunte is the one that this year has given the most satisfaction with regards to the finds.

It began with the significant discovery of the excavation campaign of an altar in front of the monumental temple. The altar dates from 570 BC and it is a large squared stone leaning against the front of the monumental Temple R.

Also found in the area too un life-size marble arm, belonging to a statue of about 1 meters of a kouros, the male statue with a votive function.

The lion's sirma and the port in Selinunte

The exceptional discoveries in Selinunte also concerned a lion's head and the ancient commercial port of the city.

The lion's head, in perfect condition, is an ancient sima, the upper end of a temple roof, about 62 centimeters high and weighing over 250 kilos. It was located not far from the site where the port was found.

The discoveries in Segesta

Also found in Segesta a Hellenistic altar in perfect conditioncomposed of two elements refined carved stone elements with flower motifs that would form part of a home's family worship area.

The discovery took place near the building called Casa del Navarca, in an area that has not been explored so far, as part of the project for the maintenance and use of the excavation fronts. Previously, a paved road and precious decorated pavements had also been found.

In Agrigento

In recent months, excavations in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, the largest archaeological park in the world, have unearthed a rich treasure of female statuettes, painted decorative elements, consisting of a man's head or bust, oil lamps, small vases, bronze fragments and also a large number of bones. All this would testify to the destruction of the city of Akragas by the Carthaginians in 406 BC

In Lazio

In the city of Rome found the Roman theater of Nero in the historic centre. A few steps from the capital, inside thearchaeological area of ​​Ostia, the glories that narrate the events that took place under the emperor Hadrian for the years 126-128 AD have been found.
