Euro 2020 will be played at Olympic stadium in Rome with the presence (in part) of the fans. This is what we learn from the letter that the undersecretary for sport of Draghi government, Valentina Vezzali, addressed to the president of the Football Association, Gabriele Gravina. The letter specifies the event may have a number of spectators equal to 25% of the capacity of the Olympic stadium (i.e. 16 thousand spectators). This request was made by the Uefa in recent days and the answer was expected in the week. The Italian government quickly dissolved the reserve, giving its green light. Satisfied Gravina who wanted to thank the Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, and Undersecretary Vezzali for her commitment and support to this important event, which risked being able to skip.

Euro 2020: the fans at the Olympic Stadium as a sign of normality

As is well known, Uefa had foreseen Euro 2020 for last summer but, due to the Covid-19, has been postponed to 2021. The championship will take place between11nd June and11th July. The opening match will be the one that will take place at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, between Turkey e Italy. The other matches that will be played in Rome, for the group stage, will be Italy-Switzerland (on June 16) e Italy-Wales (on June 20). The last match to be played at the Olimpico is scheduled for 3th July, in the quarter-final phase (of course the teams are still to be defined). The ok of the fans at the stadium for Euro 2020 is therefore a shy, but very important one recovery signal also for the world of sport. To date, in fact, all matches (including those of the national team) are played behind closed doors for compliance with anti-Covid rules.

Summer is now around the corner but, if the vaccine plan should it have the hoped-for acceleration, the government could also decide to do so admit more people at the stadium. If that were to happen, it would mean that the most important match, that return to normal, could be won (in comeback) by humanity.
