The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, has been visiting the flooded areas of Emilia-Romagna since this morning. The first stop was in Modigliana where he was welcomed by the governor Stefano Bonaccini and by all the local authorities. Third stop at the collection center for basic necessities set up inside the school gym "Don Milani” in Cesena.
Mattarella in flooded areas
The visit will continue at Ravenna where the head of state will meet a delegation of men and women who have contributed to the management of the emergency. The president will be in Lugo to visit the Rossini theater damaged by the calamitous event. Last stop in Faenza where a meeting with the mayors of all the cities affected by the flood phenomenon that has brought many towns in Romagna to their knees, together with the productive realities existing in the various territories, is scheduled. “I have no words to thank you. What you have done is of extraordinary importance, it is an example of solidarity and common commitment and generous availability".

With these words, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella addressed some volunteers and rescue workers. One of them gave the head of state a uniform, an orange jacket: “This is a tribute, it's a protection for all of us and we want to share it with you,” he said. The head of state was also given a yellow vest used by those who provide aid, with the wording 'ten bota'. The phrase in Romagna dialect has become the slogan of the resistance after the flood. The vest was given by the volunteers of the sorting center at the 'don Milani' school in Cesena: "Your presence encourages us", reiterated the volunteers addressing the head of state.

Paul VI Award donated to charity
The visit of the President of the Republic to the flooded areas comes after that of the premier Giorgia Meloni and that of the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in recent days. “I think it's a beautiful message towards the people and the populations because the President of the Republic enjoys esteem, respect, for all that he has been able to demonstrate and is demonstrating”. So the president of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Stefano Bonaccini. Furthermore, the head of state has announced that he will donate the sum linked to the Paul VI Award to the John XXIII Community, founded by Don Oreste Benzi in the Rimini area, and to its shelters affected by the floods.
