There comes another satisfaction, however “It was the hand of God” by Paolo Sorrentino. The film with Toni Servillo - already awarded with the Silver Lion - Grand Jury Prize to the Venice Film Festival - has now received two nominations for ai BAFTA.
“It was the hand of God,” the BAFTA nominations
"It Was the Hand of God" received two British Oscar nominations: Best Film not in English e Best Casting. In the first prestigious category he will challenge:
- “Drive My Car” by Ryûsuke Hamaguchi
- “Madres paralelas” by Pedro Almodóvar
- “Petite Maman” by Céline Sciamma
- "The Worst Person in the World" by Joachim Trier
The ceremony will take place on March 13, 2022 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and will be conducted by Rebel Wilson. For Paolo Sorrentino this is a truly prestigious award, which came after the Silver Lion and after - the newcomer Filippo Scotti - won the Marcello Mastroianni award. Selected to represent Italy at the Oscars 2022 in the Best International Film section, the film will now also compete in the UK.
Visible on Netflix since last December 15th, “It was the hand of God” tells the story and the growth of Fabietto in Naples in the Eighties. Definitely autobiographical, the film has in its heart the link between the protagonist and Diego Armando Maradona (the same link that unites Paolo Sorrentino to the Pibe de Oro). As happened to the director, Fabietto too will have to face a family tragedy that will change his life forever. With the BAFTA nomination, the Neapolitan director confirms himself as the golden name of the Italian film industry. As already, at the time of "La Grande Bellezza“, Oscar for best foreign film in 2014, it was intuited.
