David di Donatello, from Sophia Loren to Elio Germano

An evening dedicated to cinema as in Italy had not happened for some time, due to the pandemic. Sophia Loren triumphed as Best Actress in a Leading Role thanks to “Life ahead of him”, By his son Edoardo Ponti. Here are the words of the diva: “It's really hard to believe. The first time I got a David was 60 years ago. Tonight, however, it seems the first time. The emotion and the joy are the same. I don't know if it will be my last film but I still want to make it. I can't live without cinema ”.

A real triumph for "I wanted to hide ", nominated for 15 David and winner of 7 awards, including best film, direction and leading actor (Elio Germano).

Victory for Checco Zalone

One of the most surprising news of the David di Donatello 2021 is certainly the success of Luca Medici, better known as Checco Zalone. Before making the audience laugh with the songs "Immunity di flogge" and "La vacinada", alongside Virginia Raffaele and Oscar winner Helen Mirren, the actor, director, screenwriter, comedian and musician had released "Immigrant".

A song that anticipated “Tolo Tolo”, his latest successful film. A film of great importance for Medici, representing his debut as a film director after the long collaboration with Gennaro Nunziante. His original song won the David di Donatello, beating the favorite Laura Pausini with "I do (seen)".
