On 2 and 3 February 2025, the prestigious Staatstheater in Oldenburg will host a cultural event of great importance. The Calabrians Daniela Rome and Vito Cristofaro will perform, for the first time in Germany, with the Oldenburg State Orchestra, the piano concerto by Alfonso Rendano, one of the most appreciated Italian pianists and composers in the second half of the 800th century. Only the first movement of the concerto had been performed in Weimar in 1880 in the version for two pianos by Rendano and Ferenc Liszt. Only a year later Rendano completed the writing. Born in Carolei (Cosenza) in 1853, the Italian pianist and composer trained under the guidance of illustrious masters, becoming a recognized virtuoso. Germany, home of important influences for the Calabrian composer, thus becomes the ideal stage for his rediscovery.

Daniela Rome

The protagonists of the concert: the pianist Daniela Roma

Leading this significant event will be pianist Daniela Roma and conductor Vito Cristofaro, both artists of international caliber. Daniela Roma, a Calabrian who has lived in Rhode Island (USA) for years, has established herself as the leading interpreter of Rendano's work. With an academic background of exceptional level, having graduated with honors from the Conservatory "F. Torrefranca" and with a Master Degree in piano performance from the Hogeschool voor Muziek in Rotterdam, Daniela is much more than a simple pianist: she is a true guardian of Rendano's musical legacy. Her recordings for prestigious labels such as Phoenix Classics and Digressione Music have received unanimous acclaim from critics and audiences. Not only does she possess a wonderful sound and extraordinary sensitivity, but she also has the talent to convey the musical essence of the composers she interprets.

With a career spanning many European theatres and solid experience conducting famous operas, Cristofaro will bring his wealth of experience and artistic direction to a performance that promises to be unforgettable. His musical education, which includes a diploma with distinction in piano and violin, along with a diploma in conducting, makes him a versatile and impressive conductor.

The importance of the event

This concert is not only a tribute to the greatness of Alfonso Rendano, but also a moment of celebration for the rediscovery of 2019th-century Italian music. Rendano, in addition to being a piano virtuoso, left a significant mark on the musical scene of his time, with his innovative “Rendano pedal”, which revolutionized piano technique. Thanks to her great-grandson, the journalist Marco Ruffolo, Daniela Roma received a copy of the manuscript of the concert as a gift in XNUMX, because the orchestral score is still unpublished.

A bridge between past and present

The Oldenburg concert promises to be a bridge between past and present, well represented by the extraordinary interpretations of Daniela Roma and the expert direction of Vito Cristofaro. The rediscovery of Alfonso Rendano through music revitalizes the innovative drive that characterized his art. An extraordinary event that lovers of classical music absolutely cannot miss.
