Rome – Pompeii, inauguration of the section that leads directly from the capital to the excavations, in one hour and 50 minutes by train. The Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the Minister of Culture inaugurated the new Frecciarossa connection Gennaro Sangiuliano, together with the CEO of Ferrovie dello Stato Luigi Ferraris. The premier was also welcomed by the Director General of Museums of the Ministry of Culture Massimo Osanna. A group of archeology and cultural heritage university students was also invited aboard the Frecciarossa.

The train to Pompeii

Meloni and Sangiuliano, together with the director of archaeological park of Pompeii Gabriel Zuchtriegel and the authorities, paid a visit to the excavations, pausing in front of the House of the Silver Wedding and the archaeological remains of the home of a member of the Pompeian aristocracy. “Up until a few years ago, Pompeii was often cited as one of the places where Italy was least successful in bringing prestige to its beauties. Today it is one of the places where, thanks to the work of so many actors over the years, we demonstrate that Italy knows how to take care of its extraordinary heritage". These are the considerations of Prime Minister Meloni.
The new Frecciarossa is currently scheduled once a month, but "if it goes well we will increase the number of journeys", assured Sangiuliano. The connection without changes between the capital and one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world will be made with the Frecciarossa 1000. It is a flagship train of the Trenitalia fleet that runs every third Sunday of the month and will allow travelers and tourists to reach Pompeii from Rome in an hour and 50 minutes and return.

Red Arrow

In the evening we will return in two and a quarter hours. The departure is scheduled in the morning from Roma Termini at 8.53 with a stop in Naples Central at 10.03 and arrival at the Pompei station at 10.40. “The train – said the director general of the Museums of the Mic, Massimo Osanna – is a project that falls within the broader theme of accessibility. A theme that we are declining, thanks also to the Pnrr, at 360 degrees. Visitors will have the opportunity to be introduced to the journey, the experience will begin in Termini with videos and information. This is the model that we will have to apply to other realities of the country. It is important to network because only in this way will we be able to achieve the goal of enhancing an immense heritage that has not yet been 100% 'exploited'. We have enormous potential and only by networking can we achieve this goal”.
