“Making candles…what a passion!”, Maria Rosaria Pilli

Creativity can be expressed in a thousand different ways. And the Francophonian Maria Rosaria Pilli. A volcano of emotions and always active, she has found a unique and innovative way to put her ideas into practice: making candles.

We asked her some questions to understand more deeply how her passion was born…

So Maria Rosaria, how did your passion for candles begin?

I was traveling to Bolzano and had the pleasure of visiting some beautiful markets. My attention was drawn to a stall displaying candles of various shapes and sizes. It was truly a powerful impact on me. So, already loving them for their scent and the romantic style they evoke, I decided to try making them myself.

Have you studied how to make them?

“Yes. And I also have to thank modern technology, especially because the internet offers a huge amount of tutorials where it's easy to learn the basic techniques for making candles.”

Did you have any difficulties at the beginning of the creative process?

“Let's say yes, also because I started out experimenting and the result wasn't always what I wanted, but with tenacity and stubbornness I succeeded.”

What was your best first job?

“The Holy Family. I made it for Christmas. And I felt a double emotion, not only because I had reproduced a religious element—and I'm a person with a lot of faith—but also because it was truly perfect.”

What do you like about the creative process?

“The immersion I feel is absolutely extraordinary. Every candle I make is a part of me. I feel it's mine. Plus, it's incredibly relaxing. Despite the time it takes to make it, because it's a long process, I relax. Besides, I'm also a perfectionist and I work on a project until it reaches the level of perfection I'm looking for.”

How do you manage to combine all your hobbies at once?

Passion is the foundation of everything. In life, you need to have passion and experiment with new art forms, and all of this allows me to unleash my inner emotions. Yes, I have a rich inner world, and I love sharing it with those around me. During the day, I take care of my work, and in the afternoon, I work too. And in my free time, I dedicate myself to my most precious passions. I give myself my own moments of serenity.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to take up a hobby but is worried they won't make it?

"First, you have to start on the path you've chosen, whether it's making candles or writing novels or painting or dancing...you have to always try. You must never give up at the first setback. Dreams only come true if you believe in them all the way."
