Health emergency in Italy: the contagion curve falls slowly but the intensive care units are still too crowded with Covid patients. "In the last period the epidemic curve begins to decrease but it is a very slow decrease". This was stated by the president of the Higher Institute of Health, Silvio Brusaferro, at the press conference organized by the Ministry of Health on the analysis of the data processed by the control room.

As for today's infections, the ministerial data make it known that in the last 24 hours in Italy they were registered 21.932 new positive cases (yesterday 23.649). The new deaths are 481 (yesterday 501); the discharged healed are 19.620 (yesterday 20.712). Currently the positive cases are altogether 565.295 (yesterday 563.479). The swabs made in the last 24 hours are 331.154 (yesterday 365.085). In intensive care there are 3704 Covid patients; in home isolation they still remain 532.887 people infected with the virus.

Admissions are still growing e the saturation figures at 41 percent are of concern of Covid patients in intensive care. Fortunately, the progress of the vaccination campaign is growing rapidly ”added Brusaferro. “On the recall with a different vaccine - he then reiterated - the British with various studies are evaluating this possibility in the field. In this regard, for now we do not have data from clinical studies: we should have them within a few months. For now we don't have this problem in Italy, because we have enough doses to make boosters with the same Vaccine as foreseen by the protocols "

According to the Director of Prevention of the Ministry of Health Gianni Rezza, “the situation is improving but the Rt index is still close to 1. The incidence stands at 232 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants against 240 last week. "The employment rate in intensive care remains very high, now at 41 per cent. So - Rezza reiterates - there are signs that tell us that on the one hand the infection is slightly decreasing but on the other hand the burden on welfare services remains heavy ".
