Covid: minor consequences for children but pandemic stress for the very young

Health emergency: according to the research carried out and the data collected, children who fall ill with Covid do not have serious consequences while children are strongly affected by pandemic stress. Meanwhile, according to data released by the Ministry of Health, today there is a new surge in contagions but, on the other hand, the positivity rate drops.

“In the pediatric population, the risk of undergoing serious Covid disease is limited, if not insignificant. Fortunately for all this the price paid in terms of lives lost in the pediatric population it was 19 patients under 18 years old. These are cases in which there was a concomitant pathology ". The very young "however, they may be exposed to stress as a result of measures to contain the pandemic". This is what the coordinator of the Scientific Technical Committee, Franco Locatelli, said at the hearing in the Senate committee. 

"Especially in view of the resumption of the school year next year, it is important to put in place tools for teaching in presence significantly greater than in the last two years. This, with a particular focus on local public transport. Without forgetting the activation of vaccination programs, once they are approved by the Medicines Agency, also for the pediatric population ".

The spread of the virus in our country continues to show fluctuating levels. In fact, according to ministerial data, in the last 24 hours the infections have risen again. The new positive cases registered are 9.116, yesterday it was 5.948. On the other hand, the victims are 305, also on the increase because yesterday the deaths were 256. The molecular and antigenic swabs carried out are 315.506 (yesterday 121.829). The discharged healed today are 18.477 (yesterday 13.038); altogether the positive cases are 413.889, 9669 cheaper than yesterday. The positivity rate is 2,9 percent(yesterday it was 4,9 percent). The patients admitted to intensive care are 2.423, down by 67 units compared to yesterday. 393.290 infected people remain in home isolation from Covid.
