The Day of the white coats

To celebrate the day in Rome, a ceremony was held at the headquarters of the National Federation of Orders of Doctors (Fnomceo).
"The doctor's duties are the protection of life, psycho-physical health, the treatment of pain and the relief of suffering, while respecting the freedom and dignity of the person". This is the sentence extrapolated from article 3 of the Code of Medical Ethics and engraved on a plaque in memory of the 326 doctors and dentists who fell due to Covid.

To discover the plaque affixed to the headquarters of Fnomceo la President of the Senate Elisabetta Casellati. Present at the ceremony on President of the Chamber Roberto Fico and health minister Roberto Speranza. To bless the moment of memory and reflection Msgr. Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Pontifical Academy for Life. To animate the celebratory moment, the actor Enrico Lo Verso read some pieces interspersed with musical pieces performed by the tenor Francesco Zingariello, accompanied by a string quartet.

The day was also celebrated in Codogno

A celebration similar to that in Rome was held in Codogno, at the civic hospital where "patient 20" was identified on February 1 a year ago: the first Italian infected with Coronavirus. A second plaque was also discovered in Codogno, offered by Fnomceo and the Standing Committee of European Doctors (CPME) in memory of all health workers in Europe. Professionals decimated by the global pandemic.

The message of the Head of State and Pope Francis

For this important day of celebration, the head of state Sergio Mattarella spread his message. “Our national health system, despite its many difficulties, is facing an unprecedented test. And it proves more than ever a heritage to be preserved and invested in, to protect the entire community. For these reasons, on behalf of all Italians, I extend a grateful greeting to all healthcare personnel. I express moving closeness to the relatives of the fallen for the protection of the health of all of us ".

Also Papa Francesco he wanted to take this opportunity to thank the health personnel, who have been on the front line against the 'invisible enemy' for a year. These are the pontiff's considerations. “The example of so many of our brothers and sisters, who have risked their lives to the point of losing it, arouses deep gratitude in all of us and is a reason for reflection”.
