Corciano, the small village about 20 minutes drive from Perugia, has been included in the circuit "The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy" . This town, which has remained to its original splendor, is ideal for a trip out of town or a weekend different from usual.

Where is Corciano located?

Corciano is a small Umbrian village that stands on a hill overlooking the road that connects the territory of Trasimeno lake  to the Tiber valley.

After reaching the village, park your car, is a medieval village da visit on foot, ideal for spending a calm and relaxing day.

Surrounded by medieval walls from the 13th-14th century, the historic center of Corciano it is an alternation of small climbs and descents, stairways and houses built in limestone and travertine. 

The entrance to the bo4go can be through two doors, Porta Santa Maria on the southern side and Porta San Francesco on the opposite one. Although Roman and Etruscan finds have been found collected in the Paleontological Museum, the village is decidedly medieval, with its concentric streets that surround the central peak where the 13th century municipal tower stands.

What to see in Corciano

Crossing the main street, Cardinal Rotelli Course, you reach the Town Hall, from the 16th century, ancient residence of the Dukes of Corgna, where it is possible to admire the decorations of the wooden ceiling of the Council Hall, the work of the Zuccari school.

Absolutely worth a visit is the Palace of the Captain of the People, dating back to the 15th century and the Palace of the Priors and the Merchant, in Piazza Coragino where it is present the circular well from the end of the 15th century in which the municipal coat of arms is carved.

In the village there are numerous beautiful churches, Holy Mary of the Assumption, from the 13th century which houses the work of Perugino “The Assumption” of 1513 and a Gonfalone of 1472 by Benedetto Bonfigli, and the Church of St. Christopher from 1537, built on an Etruscan building, which houses a museum of sacred art inside.

The church and former convent of Saint Francis which houses several works including a 500th century panel from the Caporali school and a XNUMXth century “Crucifix”.

Absolutely not to be missed is the church of Sant'Agostino, from the 1476th century, which houses valuable paintings and a wooden choir from XNUMX. 

Last but not least, it is necessary to point out the church of Santa Maria del Serraglio which houses a 14th century fresco.

The museums of Corciano

In the Town Hall there is the Paleontological Museum which houses archaeological finds from the Etruscan-Roman era.

Also noteworthy is the ancient “Spedale” of the village, which preserves a fresco from 1494 attributed to Andrea d'Assisi known as l'Ingegno.

Inside the Church of San Cristoforo there is the Pievania Museum, which preserves the most significant objects and testimonies of the religious life of the community of Corciano, while in via Tazzacone there is the Peasant House Museum, where you can learn about the life of the people of Corciano during the pre-industrial period.

What to eat in Corciano

A typical Umbrian dish, belonging to the series of ancient recipes is the Torello alla ghiotta, a dish from the poor cuisine accompanied by a tasty liver pate.

You absolutely have to try it mushroom soup or spelt accompanied by toasted bread on the grill!

Among the typical desserts of the Croce cuisine there are “Le beans of the dead”, elliptical biscuits prepared with a mixture of finely ground almonds, sugar and eggs that are eaten during the festivities in the first days of November.

What to do in Corciano

Outside the historic center there is the Path of the Almond trees that runs along Lake Trasimeno. This path shaded by beautiful almond and peach trees in bloom, in spring, offers a breathtaking view. Along the way you can collect porcini, turrini, rosciole, sanguine and manine.

A walk in the woods of Mount Malbe and, reaching the summit, it is possible observe the territory of Crociano. The many hiking trails present, all well signposted, can be walking routesin  mountain bike and even a horse riding. They offer the possibility of being in direct contact with nature and immersed in silence, but also of reaching bodies of water, charcoal pits, liming plants.
