This time, Italian cinema has held up well after the holidays. Normally, cinema attendance drops significantly after the Christmas period, but this year, thanks also to the release of interesting films (such as “Io sono la fine del mondo” by Angelo Duro, “10 giorni con i suoi” by Genovesi with Fabio De Luigi and the film about the life of Bob Dylan), attendance has remained consistent.

A Complete Unknown: A Film Loved by Italians

The film about Bob Dylan, “A Complete Unknown” is among the most viewed films of the weekend, second in this particular ranking. The film, directed by James Mangold and starring Timothée Chalamet, tells in particular the rise of the young Dylan in the folk music scene of the '60s.

“We are going to tell an extraordinary moment in American culture and Bob’s life. A young Bob Dylan, 19 years old, who arrives in New York with only 2 dollars in his pocket and becomes famous in three years, before being welcomed into the folk music family in New York. And then, of course, at a certain point his fame grows. It’s so incredible, it’s a true story and it’s very interesting, it’s about an incredibly fascinating moment in American history” were the words of Mangold. And evidently this story was much loved by the great Italian public.

Most viewed films at the cinema

The data from the first weekend of February tell of a neck-and-neck race between “10 days with his” and “A Complete Unknown”. The first one, however, earns the gold medal as the most viewed thanks to about 10 thousand more viewers.

1 million and 71 thousand euros the takings for Genovesi's film in the weekend, while just under 900 thousand for A Complete Unknown. Followed by "I am the end of the world” with 770 thousand euros in takings, but over 8 million and 700 thousand euros in total takings. Followed by “Babygirl” “Dog Man” and “Emilia Perez”.
