Very particular situation in Salento, where some cases of bird flu have been discovered these days in a farm in the countryside, between Acaja and Lecce. Around 80 animals have already been killed. In recent hours, signs have been displayed in various nearby areas (like this one below) indicating a protection zone from avian influenza. This certainly alarmed citizens. As Corrieresalentino reports, the news did not leak immediately to avoid panic and protests from animal rights activists.
The practice is to cull infected animals, even those that are apparently well. The migration of birds carried the virus to Salento.

Aviaria Salento: “be careful if dead animals are found”
The Prevention Department led by Dr Alberto Fedele invite everyone to be careful if dead animals are found: it is necessary to promptly notify the authorities.
Fortunately i owners of the Salento farm have not contracted the virus. The situation can be delicate for the hunting activity that takes place in those areas. The avian virus can be transmitted from animals to humans.
Fedele explained that tests were carried out on domestic animals in all the surrounding areas and the results were negative.
