San Martino, feast of new wine. On Italian tables the precious nectar arrives with about 6 million bottles of the 2022 harvest. Light and with an aromatic bouquet, the "wine to drink young " owes its characteristics to the vinification method used developed by the French researcher Flanzy. Method based on the carbonic fermentation of whole bunches of grapes which are then squeezed after about ten days for a delicate wine that usually stands at 11/12 degrees. Tradition has it that the opening of the new wine is celebrated in San Martino on 11 November, the day on which farmers have always taken stock of a year of work.
Open cellars with new wine
The event returns for the new wine festival "Open Cellars in San Martino " of the Wine Tourism Movement (Mtv). For a few days and until November 13, guided tastings, food-wine combinations, emotional workshops, lunches and dinners with the winemaker and visits to the cellar have been underway. Furthermore, there is also the possibility for Wine Lover from all over Italy to taste the new wine of the last one harvest.
The initiative promotes responsible and sustainable consumption of wine thanks to the partnership with Wine in Moderation and Unione Italiana Vini. “Cantine Aperte in San Martino - says Nicola D'Auria, president of the Wine Tourism Movement - is one of the most eagerly awaited events by wine lovers. Especially for the younger ones, who find in this initiative an opportunity to learn more about new wine, a product with extraordinary potential.
