According to a report lacasadic, the idea is of divide the championship into 6 groups of 10 teams.
The criteria for the new group division in Serie C
The division will take place on the basis of territorial proximity (derbies will be protected). The two-way matches are confirmed, so each team will play 18 matches. Once the regular season ends, the first 5 of the 6 groups will compete in one "poule promotion“. The last five instead will compete in the "poule relegation".
A draw will be made for the pairings with the top seeds resulting from the position in the standings. Each club in the second stage will bring half of the points from the first stage. The first three teams classified in the second phase of the poule promotion together with the winner of the Italian Cup will go directly to the final phase of the competition, and will not play in the playoffs.
