Bossolasco, in the province of Cuneo, is known as "the land of roses". The village, which has less than a thousand inhabitants, is part of theAlta Langa. Its historic center is embellished with roses of different varieties and colors which, especially from the end of May to the end of June, give a luxuriant flowering. The idea of decorating the village with roses was born between the end of the 50s and the beginning of the 60s, from a municipal initiative. The local inhabitants received rose plants to be grafted near their homes.
The Rose Festival
Bossolasco has ancient origins. Here, life flows peacefully and local traditions are celebrated with enthusiasm, especially during the various festivals that take place throughout the year. Every year, in the month of June, the rose festival takes place. On this occasion, visitors can admire the colorful displays and participate in gardening and botany workshops. Additionally, each woman is given a rose.
This wonderful flower is also the protagonist of delicious dishes present in the “rose menu”. An aspect that makes Bossolasco an unmissable destination is also its gastronomy. The town, in fact, offers typical dishes of the Piedmontese tradition. Wine production in the surrounding region is also renowned. The wines of the Langhe, in particular Barolo and Barbaresco, are appreciated internationally and can be tasted in the various wineries that dot the area.
The park of rare and ancient roses
In Bossolasco you can also admire the park of rare and ancient roses. This, which is a tree-lined avenue, extends into what was once the moat of the Balestrino castle, and is home to roses of different types and colours. This area, in addition to being famous for good wine, is a land of truffles and hazelnuts. Bossolasco is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, which include green hills, vineyards and centuries-old woods. Nature lovers can take advantage of the many hiking trails that lead to spectacular views. Walking among the vineyards and olive groves, it is possible to discover the local flora and fauna, as well as enjoy moments of quiet and reflection immersed in nature.
Chosen by artists and writers
In the 60s, Bossolasco was a holiday destination chosen by artists and painters who created and painted signs for the town's shops here. They were inspired by the surrounding landscape with the aim of giving new life to the village. Today, many of the original signs are preserved inside the town hall, while some are displayed on the wall near the square on which the parish church stands. After the war, Bossolasco was visited by writers such as Italo Calvino, Mario Soldati, Giuseppe Ungaretti and Beppe Fenoglio. Whether admiring the roses in bloom, savoring the local cuisine or exploring the surrounding nature, Bossolasco offers an authentic experience that will remain in the hearts of visitors.
