From 13 September to 19 January 2025, Milan pays homage to the fashion icon Barbie with an exhibition entitled “A Cultural Icon Exhibition” at the Next Area in Via Paolo Sarpi 6.
On display there will be over 250 dolls and vintage accessories that come from the collections of Magia2000 and private collectors.
The magic begins with Barbie No. 1, who debuted in 1959 at the New York Toy Fair, dressed in a striped bathing suit and styled with a ponytail. Barbie already had 22 outfits on display at the show.
This doll, who this year turns 65 years old, and still looks great, has had a team of stylists at her disposal from the very beginning, who created clothes for her inspired by high fashion and the icons of the time.
An area of the exhibition will be dedicated to Ken, her historic boyfriend and in another you can see all the steps taken to create her face.
Barbie, a style icon
Calling her a doll is certainly reductive, because she has never been just a doll, but a true style icon that, initially, was not viewed with skepticism by adults, but, over the years, little girls all over the world have decreed her undisputed success.
Barbie represents the successful woman, always in fashion, a figure that women look up to.
Inside, there is also a space dedicated to Instagram Opportunities, with sets specifically designed to transform into Barbie and Ken and the typical human-sized packaging boxes.
The exhibition can be visited from 13/09/2024 to 19/01/2025, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 10 to 18 / Saturday, while on holidays from 11 to 20.
