Italy is irresistible for many reasons: the sun, the sea, the history but, above all, for the food. They know something about the French who, in recent days, have fought to the death. Indeed, to be more precise, they fought at the last minute jar of Nutella.

Nutella at 70% discount: on boarding!

This is no joke: in French supermarkets, men and women, young and old, crowded the supermarket shelves to grab as many jars as possible of the well-known hazelnut cream. It all started on January 25, when the chain Intermarché decided to apply one 70% Off, offering the 950 gram jar of Nutella at a price of 1,41 euros instead of the usual 4,70. From that moment, almost as if an invisible gladiator had ordered it, all hell broke loose. Beatings, pushes, distinguished ladies who literally grabbed each other by the hair, a kicking crowd around the shelves. Based on news from Le Parisien it all started in Ostricourt, in the north of France, where Police intervention was required. This first case was not the only one in which the intervention of the police was necessary.

The public response to the promotion has been truly incredible. An employee of the Saint-Chamond store stated that in a few hours the quantity of jars of Nutella that usually sells in three months was sold. A customer of Rive-de-Gier commented: «They looked like ferocious animals. One woman was yanked by the hair, while an elderly lady was hit in the head with a whole pack of jars, another had blood on her hand. It was horrible". The director of the Montbrison Intermarché instead said: "Some have lined up many hours earlier, in the night, to grab a quantity of jars of Nutella". He tried to manage the situation by setting the limit for each customer at three cans, but the measure was of little use. Despite the chaos, the promotion remained in vogue until Saturday 27 January.

Ferrero's answer

Naturally in a very short time, photos and videos started to go around the web, so much so that what happened was made known everywhere. Obviously, the response of France Ferrero. The company tweeted: "Ferrero deplores this operation and its consequences, which have led to chaos and disappointment for consumers»
