In the heart of Basilicata, where the Marmo and Platano rivers flow between hills and ancient villages, the passion of ASD Marmo Platano beats, the football club of Muro Lucano that represents a beacon of aggregation and dreams for the youth of an entire area. Founded in 2000 as FC Aurora Murese, the team took on its current name in 2019, a tribute to the two waterways that symbolize the union and vitality of this land. Marmo Platano is a story of community, resilience and love for football.

The managers of the Marmo Platano team

The association Raíces Italianas in Argentina, led by President Vittoria Gioffre, has joined forces with ASD Marmo Platano to create an extraordinary project, financed with private resources, which celebrates the bond between Italy and Argentina through football. Also giving a symbolic contribution to this initiative are entities such as italiani.it, ANFE e CIM, who support with their spirit of cultural and social promotion the values of Italian unity and identity.
Fifteen young Argentines, from different provinces, along with a boy from Uruguay, were selected to live a unique football experience in Muro Lucano. Many of them boast Italian ancestry, but the project has also opened its doors to those who do not have direct roots, offering everyone an opportunity for sporting and cultural growth.

Among the most beautiful stories, that of a family originally from Siena, who decided to settle in Muro Lucano, stands out. The two children, aged 14 and 17, will join the Club Marmo Platano, while the father has found work and a home thanks to the support of the team. The youngest daughter, aged 11, will attend the local school and will dedicate herself to volleyball, another discipline offered by the club's football school, which also promotes women's sports.

The bond between Muro Lucano and Argentina is deep and historic: the Farenga brothers, originally from this Lucanian town, were among the founders of the legendary Boca Juniors in 1905. This project only strengthens a bridge that has united the two lands for over a century.

A Union Project

ASD Marmo Platano was born in a context marked by the challenges of the demographic decline that has hit Southern Italy. Over the years, to ensure an adequate number of young people for the football school and youth teams, the club has embraced an aggregation project that involves several municipalities. Muro Lucano and Bella were the first to join, followed by Baragiano and Castelgrande, creating a catchment area of about 12.000 inhabitants. This collaboration has allowed us to build a solid sports reality, giving the kids not only
the opportunity to play, but also a sense of belonging and shared identity.
The name change in 2019 was not just a formality: “Marmo Platano” represents the essence of a club that, like rivers, unites territories and people, bringing lifeblood to Lucanian youth football. The football school, in particular, is the heart of the project, a place where young talents grow not only as athletes, but as individuals, learning the values of respect, teamwork and perseverance.

A club that looks to the future

Marmo Platano home games are played at the Rigamonti stadium in Muro Lucano. ASD Marmo Platano is not just football, but a project that looks to the future. The club is committed to promoting the youth sector, drawing inspiration from virtuous teams such as Atalanta, celebrated by the Lucanians for their triumph in the Europa League in 2024. Furthermore, Marmo Platano has opened its doors to women's football, inviting young players born between 2011 and 2018 to join, with the aim of breaking down prejudices and promoting inclusion. "Women's football is the future, and we want to be part of it," said president Gianfranco Pucillo. An unforgettable moment for the club was the "1° Memorial Mattia Discianni" in 2022, dedicated to a young footballer from Murese who tragically passed away. In 2025, Marmo Platano attracted attention with a unique initiative: against Atletico Montalbano, the team took to the field with a jersey inspired by Boca Juniors, in homage to the 120th anniversary of the famous Argentine club founded, among others, by the Muro Lucano brothers Juan and Teodoro Farenga. This gesture celebrated the deep bond between Muro Lucano and Argentina.

The history of ASD Marmo Platano is enriched, therefore, every day, thanks to the boys who, with enthusiasm, share photos and videos of their experience on their personal social channels. The club is much more than a team: it is a family that grows together, uniting generations and territories.
