Arianna Fontana has definitely entered the legend of Italian sport: she is the athlete who conquered the highest number of Olympic medals in Italian history, reaching altitude 13, the same total as the fencer Edoardo Mangiarotti, record holder since 1960.
The finish line was reached in the evening of Thursday February 12, when the short track champion has equaled the record and reiterated an already historical fact: Fontana is in fact also the most medaled Italian woman ever at the Games, a record he had already achieved with theeleventh medal in Beijing 2022.
But that's not all. In her discipline, Arianna Fontana is an absolute reference at a global level: in short tracks è the most medaled athlete ever at the Olympic Games, without gender distinction, always with 13 medals.
In addition to the overall record, his Olympic list is studded with other records: 6 consecutive editions with at least one medal (like Armin Zöggeler), 3 consecutive editions with a gold for an Italian woman (like Deborah Compagnoni), and the record for precocity with a medal won at 15 years and 314 days of women's relay in Turin 2006. And in the "golden" numbers, Fontana also remains the most successful Italian in short track at the Winter Games, with 3 times.
Fontana hasn't just collected medals: he's built a career that spans generations and Olympics, transforming each edition into a chapter in Italy's history.
