Apepak means eco-friendly research and innovation at Castelfranco Veneto! The plastic that at the beginning of its history was welcomed as a good, but over the years it proved to be detrimental to the ecosystem; therefore the research and experimentation of biodegradable products is very welcome.
Today we proposed alternative solutions to free ourselves once and for all from the plastic that suffocates rivers and seas.
Italian excellence in experimentation
There is an experimental material, 100% natural, composed of a cotton fiber, jojoba oil and beeswax. Unlike the traditional transparent film on the market, this material that comes in sheets, but does not pollute at all and can also be used up to a hundred times.
Apepak
The product is called Apepak, and is therefore composed of organic cotton certified Global Organic Textile Standard. Recycled cotton is also used. Beeswax, pine resin and jojoba oil can be supplied by professional beekeepers. Apepak appears as a square of cotton-like fabric. Worked with beeswax and jojoba oil, it becomes resistant to wrap food. The square of cloth does not drip or seal, so that it can be used to cover food. The advantage of this material is that it does not pollute at all. It contains no petroleum derivatives.
Apepak Italian excellence
This material is breathable, adheres to the food. It is perfect for products like bread, to prevent moisture from making it soggy. The completely Italian product is also ideal for wrapped fruit, cold cuts and cheeses, keeping them fresh for a long time. It then replaces the disposable plastic and aluminum casings. Beeswax tends not to get dirty as it is water repellent. The sheets can be washed with running water and soap.
What an idea!
The idea is of Massimo Massarotto and his wife Molly, who registered the brand in the USA The couple produced the invention in a homely way, soaking the squares of fabric in wax. Then they tried to give them to relatives for Christmas, receiving positive reactions. The couple, however, wanted to launch the product in Italy, because they wanted a “made in Italy” product, produced in Italy.
Probe onlus social cooperatives
That's why they looked for partners, finding their friend Francesca Amato. Amato today is vice president of the ssocial cooperatives Sonda onlus, which has research laboratories. The cooperative has a laboratory in San Vito di Altovole, and is already producing and experimenting with this new movie, also thanks to the help of a group of volunteers who are testing it to understand how to improve the product to make it unique.
An ecological product
The idea of the cooperative is not just to create an ecological product. It's also to offer people in need of a job. According to estimates, it would be possible to remunerate thirty minutes of work by a disadvantaged member of the Social Cooperative Onlus. This innovative product could become a hotbed of craft jobs for disadvantaged people, which is not negligible.
Organic cotton farmingd
It seems that with this patent nine square kilometers of plastic casings can be saved per year, supporting the agriculture of organic and recycled cotton. The product therefore saves one square meter of film per use. Apepak is durable, multi-purpose, because it is malleable, antiseptic, sealing, biodegradable. Never like today, we need something that frees us from plastic. Perfect for wrapping a sandwich, fruit, to make a dough rise or seal leftovers.
It seems incredible that organic cotton sheets, tied to an ethical chain, soaked in beeswax, allow food to be sealed. It's great that this material is giving satisfaction to those who are working on it. It's having an interesting “battage” on social media!
