May 18, 2025, an important date for the new pontificate. Today we celebrate the enthronement of Pope Leo XIV, an event full of emotion and meaning for the Catholic Church and for millions of faithful around the world. The enthronement, or the official installation of the new Pontiff, is an ancient and solemn rite, steeped in symbolism and tradition.

The enthronement is not only a liturgical moment, but also a powerful message to the world. Each Pope, while continuing the Petrine ministry, leaves a personal mark that reflects his charisma, his pastoral vision and his relationship with the ecclesial and international community. With the election and enthronement of Pope Leo XIV, the Church opens to a new phase of its journey, between fidelity to tradition and sensitivity to the signs of the times.

The ceremony is held in accordance with the Ordo Rituum pro Ministerii Petrini Initio Romae Episcopi, introduced by Pope Benedict XVI in 2005, which separates the rites of the beginning of the papal ministry from the Eucharistic celebration. This order, also maintained by Pope Francis, guarantees a clear liturgical distinction and greater sobriety, despite the grandeur of the event.

Enthronement of Pope Leo XIV: Over 200 International Delegations Present

Pope Leo XIV, following the example of his predecessors, has chosen to include in the ceremony some signs of continuity and openness: ample freedom in the choice of musical pieces, greater simplicity in gestures and the possibility of visiting, in the coming days, the basilicas of St. Paul Outside the Walls and St. Mary Major. These visits, full of spirituality and symbolism, will be carried out in ways and at times chosen directly by the new Pontiff. In a Vatican sealed off for the occasion, 200 international delegations are expected for the ceremony.
