In addition to direct observation, statistical data show that childhood obesity is a growing problem of considerable health and social importance. Especially in Western countries. In the Campania region, one in two children (49%) is overweight or obese. The causes of this real "epidemic "of obesity they are to be found above all in incorrect eating habits and in a sedentary lifestyle.
Children educators
Anyone who tries to educate children in nutrition knows that the real problem is to educate the parents. So why not do the reverse? That is, asking children to become educators? For this purpose the laboratories of the center are organized in such a way as to provide students with the tools for putting into practice the principles of a healthy and correct diet to be passed on to their parents, who are responsible for their nutrition. Children and adolescents are seen as educators, as agents of change. Not only towards adults, but also towards peers. From a methodological point of view, all the laboratories favor peer education practices. Also judged by the scientific literature as one of the most effective training strategies. It serves to activate the passage of knowledge and experience among children and adolescents. In order to develop positive ways of doing and to increase responsibility for one's own health and the need to protect it.
Eating while playing
The best way to educate the little ones about a healthy and correct diet is to eat while playing. Both in the theoretical and practical courses presented by the Conscious Nutrition Center, children will be offered activities that, in a playful way, will encourage them to eat healthy while having fun. Through interactive lessons, experiments, didactic cards, crosswords and many other games, children will be provided with the tools to learn about foods and the various food groups, the seasonality of fruit and vegetables, as well as the importance of their consumption, the role fundamental that covers physical activity and the consumption of water to the detriment of that of soft drinks. Furthermore, children will be guided in choosing the healthiest foods, favoring natural and homemade foods, with the aim of becoming small consumers and conscious cooks.
