The 15 Jun 2021, Alberto Sordi would have turned 101 years old. Of him, unforgotten actor and multifaceted artist, we have a lot left. Very, very much. Also thanks to those 200 films in which he took part, becoming one of the greatest interpreters of Italian comedy (together with Vittorio Gassman, Ugo Tognazzi and Nino Manfredi). How to remember him, then, if not with a mural in his beloved Rome?
Rome celebrates the 101 years of Alberto Sordi
A mural in the Garbatella style: this is how Rome celebrates the 101st anniversary of the birth of Alberto Sordi. Wanted by AS Roma, and made by the street artist Lukemaleon, the mural received the patronage of the Lazio Region and the collaboration of Ater. To admire it it is necessary to go inside via Ignazio Persico, not far from that Via Fausto Vettor who hosted him at number 34 for nine years, when he was just a child. Right there, on his one hundred and first birthday, one will be affixed commemorative plate. Moreover, the mural of the national Albertone is part of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Rome as the capital. And he is in good company. The faces of Anna Magnani and Gigi Proietti have been smiling from the buildings for some time. And many others will follow.
Also in Rome, until next August 1st it will be possible to visit (again) the exhibition “The Centenary - Alberto Sordi 1920-2020". After all, the centenary of the iconic actor was held in full pandemic. And extending the exhibition dedicated to him was natural. Through two narrative strands, one showing a public Alberto Sordi and the other his private sphere, his career and life are retraced. And his genius will be appreciated, even more deeply. Especially since the exhibition is set up in an extraordinary location, the villa where Sordi lived (in piazzale Numa Pompilio, among the greenery of the Baths of Caracalla), where a special event is scheduled for June 15th. "Inside the villa, a great event will be organized for the inauguration of the Alberto Sordi archive, curated by the Alberto Sordi Museum Foundation, and important news for the city will be announced”The Municipality said.
Not only Rome, the reprint of Igor Righetti's book
If Rome pays homage to its illustrious citizen with an exhibition and a mural, literature does not stand by. Rubettino has decided to publish, on the 101st anniversary of his birth, the tenth reprint in twelve months of “Alberto Sordi's secret”. A book that, written by Igor Righetti (his cousin in life), tells the actor's off-set life. For the occasion, the ebook (the first signed digital book) is offered in the single day at 1.99 instead of 8.99 euros.
Beloved not only in Italy but also abroad, first and foremost in the United States and Argentina, the volume has received five awards including the "Apoxiomeno International Award" for Literature and the "International Tour Film Fest". A success well explained, given that the figure of Alberto Sordi has entered history. And that his contribution to cinema goes far beyond the Italian borders.
