The technical scientific commission of the Italian drug agency (Aifa) has given the green light for the administration of the fourth dose of anti-Covid vaccine. Specifically, this second booster is recommended for severely immunosuppressed patients who have completed the primary course of immunization. Compound cycle for this category of subjects, with two doses plus the additional one.
Fourth dose of vaccine
The opinion of the CTS was sent to Ministry of Health. Dall'Aifa clarify that for immuno-compromised patients the fourth dose would be equivalent to the booster dose administered to the general population. It would therefore be a call to follow the primary cycle '2 + 1'. The advice of the experts is that it is administered with mRna vaccines, in the same times used for all the other subjects who have already received the booster.
In intensive care especially unvaccinated
According to the data of the'Higher Institute of Health (Iss), the presence of unvaccinated people in intensive care is about 20 times higher than in those who received the additional dose. Mortality from Covid 19 among people without the coronavirus vaccine was 19 times higher than those who took the booster dose. And about 7 times more than someone who has been vaccinated with two doses for less than four months. These are the data from the full report on epidemiological surveillance SARS-CoV-2 published today (February 19, 2022) by the ISS. The deaths are recorded from December 24, 2021 to January 23, 2022. It should be noted that among the unvaccinated, 107 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants were recorded, compared to 15 per 100 thousand inhabitants of those who took 2 doses within 120 days. And compared to the 6 deaths per 100 thousand inhabitants of those who also took the third dose.
