He passed away this evening, at the age of 89, Pippo Baudo, born Giuseppe Raimondo Vittorio Baudo. He passed away at the Campus Biomedico in Rome, surrounded by his loved ones.
For everyone, however, he will simply remain "Pippo": the presenter par excellence, the man who has accompanied generations of Italians with his voice, his charisma, and his unmistakable presence on the small screen.
Pippo Baudo's successes
During his very long career he has marked the history of television by hosting programmes that have entered the collective memory: from Settevoci to Very song, from Domenica In to Fantastico, up to Serata d'onore and Novecento.
But above all the Festival of Sanremo, of which he holds the absolute record of 13 presentations between 1968 and 2008, transforming it into an unmissable event for millions of viewers.
In recent years, Baudo had adopted a more private profile, turning down several television offers and appearing rarely. His last appearance was in September 2023, when he connected via video with Mara Venier on Domenica In. With him, a piece of Italian television history is lost, but his memory will remain indelible in the public's memory.
