The Festival del Lamento is coming to Soveria Mannelli. The event, which will take place on August 3rd, 4th, and 5th, will have the primary goal of helping people rediscover the pleasure of gathering together. The Festival aims to unite and inspire lament, to dismantle the false myth of a society based on the frenzy of getting there, and on the concept of "making it at all costs," even if it leaves behind those who start out from a disadvantaged background and who, perhaps, by complaining, are asking for help.
The Festival of Lament, to reunite, rediscover and surpass ourselves
In Calabria, complaining is an ontology. Complaining fulfills a communicative function. Our Greek and Roman ancestors complained, the writers medieval in the lamentations, the Provençals with their planhs and then the Italians with their laments. In the Bible there is even an entire book dedicated to lamentations. Therefore, Lament accompanies everyone's lives, at every latitude and in every historical period. The Festival of Lament It highlights and mocks one of the characteristics of Calabrians, but also aims to overcome it through sharing and community integration. The initiative, which will take place in early August in Soveria Mannelli, intends to aggregate private complaints and transform them into public onesThe goal is to find out that, deep down, Complaining is inherent in the human soul and that, sometimes, by talking, reasoning, meeting, one can find the solution, but also compassion.
