Milan Bergamo Airport (Orio al Serio) becomes the stage for an unprecedented meeting between culture and technology: thanks to an exhibition opened a few days ago, travellers can discover the extraordinary letters of Galileo Galilei, digitized in collaboration with the Pontifical Gregorian University, and relive in 3D the most significant moments of the life of the great scientist.

A journey in the footsteps of Galileo Galilei: Orio al Serio airport is also a cultural hub

The White Exchange Company (WHEXCH) curated the project, as well as the stand easily accessible to the public in transit. The idea is simple but revolutionary: to exploit the potential of virtual reality to transform works, itineraries and historical documents of immense value - and normally not exposed to the general public - into immersive experiences to be lived in a few minutes, directly before a flight.

From the original letters to a journey through Italian cities, stars and planets.

Each visitor, wearing a VR headset, can virtually look at Galileo's original letters and, at the same time, follow the evolution of his research. You are thus transported to the Italian cities that marked the most important stages of the great astronomer's career, such as Rome, Padua and Florence, to then cross the borders of the Earth and fly into space, in the footsteps of the discoveries that changed our understanding of the universe.

Enhancing cultural heritage: “culture in pills”

The main objective of WHTEXCH is to enhance cultural heritage and spread it among a wider audience, using languages and technological means close to the new generations. It is not a purely aesthetic installation: the new stand concretely demonstrates that an airport terminal can become a place of cultural dissemination. Passengers, often short of time, can access a sort of "cultural capsule" that, in a few minutes, unites past and future.

The Orio al Serio experience is just a first step. The “Cultura in pillole” project will be enriched in the coming months with new content. The goal is to keep passengers interested, offering ever-changing experiences, and possibly replicate the idea in other Italian and international airports. In this way, WHTEXCH aims to transform transit spaces into real showcases of our cultural heritage, bringing travelers of all ages and backgrounds closer to the roots of knowledge. What is being presented these days at the Milan Bergamo Airport is much more than a simple temporary attraction: it is a new model of heritage enjoyment that focuses on technology, collaboration between entities and the desire to disseminate knowledge in an open and inclusive manner.

For those who are about to fly, it becomes an opportunity to immerse themselves in a short but intense journey through time, discovering the life and works of one of the greatest scientists of all time in a brief moment of personal enrichment.
