The Etna Apiary
Created in Viagrande by the work of theFriends of the Earth AssociationThe apiary will join three other facilities with which it shares the goals of creating an experiential tourism itinerary, promoting environmental education, proposing scientific dissemination and protecting biodiversity.
Why it was born
The apiary aims to introduce visitors to the extraordinary world of bees. Inside the facility, there is a large themed area with games, spaces for recreational activities, a tasting area, and places to learn more about the social organization and valuable environmental role of bees. It's a perfect place to offer to school groups next school year. It features interactive areas, information panels, and other resources. The beekeeping profession is also explained.

This is a specific place where bee hives are placed to set up their structures.
It is a site where various social and educational activities take place, with healthy value for both school groups and families.
Activities
The visit to the Etna Apiary includes the observation of the live bees in the glass hive, the pollination game in the flower field, the tasting of the honey and many other fun and educational activities about the fantastic world of bees.
In particular, the Friends of the Earth association promotes the breeding and protection of'Sicilian Black Bee (Sicilian honey bee), an endemic breed that has adapted over millennia to the Sicilian landscape and climate. It is highly resistant to drought and parasites and produces a honey with highly nutritious properties. It is a key link in the biodiversity of Sicily's natural ecosystems.
The other structures
Next to the apiary are also the Etna Museum and the Butterfly House.
Il Etna Museum It is the largest volcanological museum in Italy, offering the opportunity to learn about Etna in depth, both from a scientific-educational point of view and from a cultural and traditional point of view.
Adjacent to the museum is the historic Butterfly House which houses hundreds of live, free butterflies inside a large tropical greenhouse.
