Ravenna will be the first Italian Capital of the SeaThe award was announced in Rome by the Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies, Nello Musumeci, who presented the title to the Romagna city, recognizing its project dedicated to promoting maritime culture and the sea-related economy.

The new national initiative aims to promote the relationship between coastal cities and the sea, enhancing traditions, innovation and sustainable development of the so-called Blue EconomyThe winning city will receive funding of one million euros, which will serve to support projects, events and cultural activities related to the maritime world.

The dossier submitted by Ravenna convinced the commission, thanks in part to the city's strong maritime identity and the strategic role of its port, one of the most important in the Adriatic. Numerous initiatives dedicated to the sea, boating, environmental protection, and the promotion of maritime culture are planned for 2026.

In the national competition, Ravenna beat out several Italian coastal cities, including Riccione, Lampedusa, Cagliari, Gaeta, and Policoro, to win the title of the initiative's first edition.

For Ravenna, this is an important recognition that strengthens the city's historic bond with the sea and offers new opportunities for economic, tourism, and cultural development for the entire region.
