National lockdown: this is the request made loudly by doctors from all over Italy. A request that responds to an emergency situation which, beyond the individual regions, begins to affect the entire Peninsula. Only two weeks ago there was talk of a threshold that, if touched, would trigger the closure of the country: 2.971 people hospitalized in intensive therapy for contagion from Covid-19.
A threshold now exceeded, with 2.749 beds occupied (data updated to Sunday 8 November). But, to worry, are also hospitalized with milder symptoms. An overload for hospitals, doctors, nurses and all health personnel. Who, now, have decided to make their voices heard.
The lockdown is the only solution: the doctors' appeal
The appeal for a national lockdown comes from the FNOMCeO (National Federation of the Orders of Physicians and Dentists). Its president, Philip Rings, spoke live to Radiorai invoking the only solution that - at the moment - would give Italian hospitals a little breathing space. “With an unchanged trend, in 30 days we will have to deal with a huge number of deaths,” he said. “Considering this week's data as a typical trend, if we project them without foreseeing further increases, the situation in a month will be dramatic. One must immediately resort to one total closure. Either we block the virus or it will block us. The signs tell us that the system does not hold and even the now yellow regions will soon find themselves in the same conditions as the most affected areas ”.
The national secretary of Anaao Assomed also spoke of lockdown Carlo Palermo. "With the worrying data of infections and deaths, and with the Regions contesting the numbers that classify them as red areas, the only solution is a 6-8 week national lockdown to flatten the curve ”: these are the words representing the union of hospital doctors. As also stated by the anesthetists, represented by Alexander Vergallo (Association of hospital resuscitators), in the absence of extreme measures, intensive care will collapse. In the space of a few weeks, a situation could emerge even worse than that of last March-April.
The situation in Italy
The contagion curve in Italy does not stop. It is also to sound the alarm Walter ricciardi, scientific advisor to the Ministry of Health. Che, host of “Che tempo che fa”, announced the need to make decisions quickly. In the red regions (those considered to be at higher risk), hospitals report situations that are now unsustainable. In Lombardy emblematic is the case ofSan Gerardo Hospital of Monza: his emergency room no longer accepts green codes, and out of 600 beds, almost 500 are currently occupied by Covid patients. Right now We are Codogno and we need the same attention that we gave in phase one to the others. We hired 110 new operators, including 40 doctors and the rest nurses, but having 340 positive operators at home, we are talking about a drop compared to a stopped army ”, the appeal of Mario Alparone, director of Asst Monza.
But attention is also turned to other regions which, in the next few hours, could find themselves in the red zone or in that Orange: Campania, Liguria, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Veneto. The red zone has already been declared autonomous province of Bolzano, by decree of South Tyrol. But, according to doctors, all of this may not be enough.
