A novel - Nail of the Earth - which takes its cue from an imaginary apocalyptic explosion of Etna. First literary work by Roberto Zito, second-year student of the two-year School of Writing and Storytelling at Viagrande Studios
Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 7:00 p.m., at the Art Training Center Viagrande Studios (via Francesco Baracca snc, Viagrande – CT) the presentation of the first work will take place Roberto Zito"Nail of the Earth," a novel published by Scatole Parlanti. The author will be in conversation. Manuela de Quarto, writer, teacher, and director of the Viagrande Studios Biennial School of Writing and Storytelling. The readings will be curated by Giovanna Valenti, with the organizational support of Claudia Migliori, general manager of Viagrande Studios.
Based on the apocalyptic, ensemble novels, "Chiodo della terra" is the story of one of the most devastating eruptions ever to occur on Mount Etna. A cataclysm that unfolds in the space of a single night. An explosion tears through the volcano's summit, followed by a lapilli storm that strands the survivors amidst the burning forests. An apocalypse seen through the lens of six characters, six intertwined paths.

This is the story of Luca, a young man who fled to Milan to escape the violence of his brutal and fanatical father, Giuseppe. Upon hearing the news of the disaster on Mount Etna, Luca attempts to return to Catania to save his mother, Agata, trapped on the volcano with her husband. Their fates intersect with those of Matt and Lisa, a couple of English tourists lost on the trails of Mount Etna during a nighttime hike, and with that of Carmine, an ambitious politician with a dark personal tragedy behind him.
"I wanted to create a story that has never been written, using a setting that has always fascinated visitors from all over the world, but which also inspires a subconscious fear." Author Roberto Zito states:
Roberto Zito was born in Catania in 1987. He graduated in Modern Philology and won first prize in the short story category at the "Premio Themis" literary competition – 1st Edition. He was a finalist in two editions of the "Writing about Cinema – Alberto Farassino Award" competition, organized by the Cinemazero Association, the Pordenonelegge Foundation, and the National Union of Italian Film Critics. He collaborated with the University of Catania on the original-language film club "Learn by Movies.". He served as a selector for the international short film section at the "Garden in Movies" festival. He loves cinema in all its forms, from indie films to Hollywood blockbusters. He is currently in his second year at the Viagrande Studios School of Writing and Storytelling.
