Mazzarino, Sicily, joins the "Municipalities in the World" project.

The Municipality of Mazzarino, in the heart of the province of Caltanissetta, has joined the project "Municipalities in the world” of the Italiani.it Foundation, signing the memorandum of understanding that officially includes it in an ever-growing network of Italian administrations committed to reconnecting with their citizens around the world.

Mazzarino is a town well-acquainted with emigration. Like much of inland Sicily, it has seen generations of its inhabitants leave, toward Northern Italy, Germany, Belgium, and the Americas, in search of a future that their homeland, at certain times in history, could not guarantee. Those Mazzarino residents left, taking with them their language, their recipes, the patron saints' festivals recounted to their children and grandchildren born elsewhere, the memory of streets, scents, and faces. An invisible yet enduring heritage, unfazed by distance or time.

By joining the project Municipalities in the world The Municipality reaffirms that the emigrant community is a living and active part of Mazzarino's identity. The project, promoted by the Italiani.it Foundation, functions as a reconnection platform: it connects local governments with compatriots abroad through information channels, cultural initiatives, and remote participation tools. It's not nostalgia, then, but a future, because emigrant communities often represent extraordinary resources of expertise, international relations, and a love for their roots.

If you grew up there, if your parents told you about the town, if your dialect or your habits still bear traces of that Sicilian hinterland, this project is yours too. You can get in touch, stay updated on what's happening in Mazzarino, and help keep alive a shared history that doesn't just belong to those who remain.

Mazzarino has signed. Now it's up to the Mazzarinesi around the world to respond.
