Tuesday, January 21, 2025, the world celebrates National Hugging Day. This celebration was born in 1986 in the United States, thanks to Kevin Zaborney, who wanted to encourage people to express affection in a simple and spontaneous way through hugs.
Hug Day reminds us of the importance of human contact, often overlooked in the frenzy of everyday life. Scientific studies demonstrate the peculiarities of a hug:
- Reduces stress by decreasing cortisol (the stress hormone).
- Stimulates the production of oxytocin, the hormone linked to well-being and confidence.
- Improve your mood and strengthens social bonds.

Hug Day: the initiative
For World Hug Day, today from 14.30pm to 18.00pm, the Atelier Treviglio Musei, in Teeviglio (in the province of Bergamo), will be the stage for a special artistic experience, where creativity and affection will meet in a collective performance. Those who participate will be the protagonists of a unique moment: no artistic experience or materials are needed.
All you need to do is bring a simple white t-shirt from home, which will become the canvas for a work of art created through hugs. It will be the human contact to make magic, with loved ones or newly met people who, with their hugs, will imprint shapes and colors on the fabric, leaving indelible signs of affection and sharing. It will not only be an artistic event, but an opportunity to celebrate human warmth and the power of the hug as a symbol of connection. The performance will represent a moment of reflection on spontaneity and the value of relationships, transforming a simple daily gesture into a collective work to take with you.
Admission is free and open to all.: the desire to share and get involved is the only requirement to participate.
