Have you ever wondered what an Italian resident abroad really lacks; to the point of causing him an intense homesickness? The family will not answer; and no, not even \ his \ or girlfriend \ or parked \ or who knows in some corner of lost appearance. The first thing of which he will feel a sudden absence such as to darken his entire surrounding, unless this is in Colombia, can only be one: the coffee. For a true Italian, there are no mornings when coffee cannot be drunk before starting. Coffee is a ritual. It is a tradition that survives time and bad weather. Coffee is democratic, conciliatory and, when multiple, always paid for by a single individual. Coffee, as can be deduced from a given fipe, cradles Italy in a cup.

But coffee, in addition to being a pleasure, is also an invaluable economic resource for Italians. In fact, involving 700 operating companies, with about seven thousand employees, coffee has a production value of 3,4 billion euros; almost half of which comes from exports. It is no coincidence that Italy has a second place among the exporters of roasted coffee in the world ranking, thanks to 120 thousand tons of exports every year.

But the history of coffee has also been written by Italian entrepreneurs who have been able to make a unique pleasure a real business worth billions of euros.

Massimo Zanetti and his Segafredo

Massimo's ambition is certainly not a singular phenomenon within his family nucleus; being the son of coffee merchants. He managed a roasting company in Villorba, in the Treviso area; but the climb to success starts after having invested in the Bolognese coffee shop Segafredo, acquiring plantations from which he extrapolated a Holding, which today houses more than 40 companies. Massimo Zanetti Becerage Group employs more than 2400 employees; and is a company listed on the Milan Stock Exchange.

Francesco Illy and Illycaffè

It is a story whose beginning dates back to 1933, that of Illycaffè by Francesco Illy. Illycaffè, thanks to the brilliant contribution of Francesco, immediately becomes innovative in the sector, thanks to the introduction of pressurization systems with inert gas, able to preserve the aroma of the product; and Illetta, ancestor of modern coffee machines, proposing to replace pressurized water by means of steam. Illycaffè currently has a number of employees that exceeds 1200; and Mauro Pogliani and administrator of the brand, the first individual not belonging to the Illy family to manage the administration of the roasting company.

Lavazza, a bicentennial coffee

We are in Turin at the end of the 30th century. In a small grocery store in the center, Luigi Lavazza discovers an innate passion for the coffee plant, which will lead him to experiment with blends that will one day take him beyond earthly borders. the popularity of the Lavazza blend is beginning to be felt in the air, as it is the subject of continuous advertising campaigns. Throughout history, thanks to the birth of foreign subsidiaries, Lavazza is the first brand to see the space. On 2015 May 400, Samantha Cristoforetti will have the honor and pleasure of tasting the first espresso XNUMX km from the earth, delivered by ISSpresso, a joint invention with Argotec, a Turin-based aerospace company.
