Historic trains in Sicily are restarting with new routes. The program and events scheduled through December have been presented.
Historic trains in Sicily, thanks to the FS Foundation
Historic trains are back to allow you to visit incredible places and wonderful villages. All thanks to the constant work of Italian FS Foundation Guardian and manager of the great historical heritage of the Italian railways. The historic trains in Sicily program includes 51 events on the island's most beautiful and scenic railway lines. These events will conclude on Sunday, December 10th.
Each historic train itinerary is accompanied by visits and excursions organized by the Sicilian Region's Department of Tourism, Sport, and Entertainment. Among this year's new additions, in addition to the 30s Centoporte and Corbellini carriages, the FS Foundation, at the express request of the Department of Tourism, has also introduced new types of historic rolling stock, specifically a luggage van capable of carrying up to 50 bicycles per journey. The aim is to encourage train-bike intermodality on the routes traveled by historic trains.
The routes planned throughout Sicily
Historic trains in Sicily, the program includes routes with different names:
Temples: from Caltanissetta to lower Agrigento and Porto Empedocle S. But a route is also planned from Palermo;
Chocolate: from Caltanissetta to Modica, home of world-famous chocolate;
Normans: from Messina – to the splendid tourist destination of Cefalù;
Of the Pistachio: from Messina to Giarre (Circumetnea). But departure is also planned from Syracuse.
Ortigia: from Messina to Syracuse, to admire the famous seaside village of Ortigia;
Of the Sea and Ancient Civilizations: from the regional capital Palermo to Castelvetrano. Between the two cities there is also the route called dell'Oil and of Magna GraeciaTwo other routes also depart from Palermo: Star Train from Palermo towards Roccapalumba and the Art Train up to Tusa. And then we continue by train:
of Ceramics: from Syracuse to Caltagirone, the home of quality ceramics;
Barocco: from Syracuse to Ragusa with a double leg from Syracuse to Modica, the baroque city.
of Oil and Magna Graecia: Trapani – Castelvetrano.
Historic trains in Sicily: how much does a ticket cost?
Tickets for 2023 cost €2 per journey for all scheduled services. A return journey costs €4 per person. Children up to four years old travel free. Children up to 11 years old travel free. 50% reduction.
