"European Gastronomy Region 2025” , one of the most coveted titles in the world awarded to Sicilia byInternational Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT). It is the first Italian region to conquer the international recognition of the European Region of Food and Wine.

La European Commission IGCAT, in recent months, had started a survey in Italy among the regions that have the highest number of gastronomic excellences who had submitted their candidacy. IGCAT is a non-profit organization founded in 2012 with the aim of raising awareness among local communities and providing them with the necessary tools to safeguard and enhance the gastronomic, cultural, artistic and tourist resources present in the various territories and propose development.

The title of European gastronomy region it allows you to enjoy great visibility and the possibility of positioning yourself as an international gastronomic destination. The Award is awarded by a specific commission on the basis of precise established criteria.

Sicily European region of food and wine

Sicily's candidacy for the award was born during the last edition of Vinitaly. The jury chose the island not only for its quality and variety of products but also for development projects. The title will allow the Region to be offered to tourists thanks to cultural and culinary initiatives.

The jury began a tour of the island, stopping at Cefalù, Castelbuono, Ragusa, in the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento and Selinunte. Meetings have also been scheduled with agri-food operators, with the University and with those who preserve the historical memory of the best food and wine tradition that characterizes Sicily.

A good result obtained by the Region with commitment and dedication to strengthen this driving sector of the economy which also has implications for the whole of Italy, projected into a context of international promotion.
