Il 23 October 2024 marked the beginning of a new era for Italian citizens: with the launch of theIT-Wallet, it will be possible to manage the digital driving license and health card directly from the IO app. This innovative project represents a decisive step towards the digitalization of public services, simplifying access to essential documents and ensuring greater convenience and safety for users.
Digital Driving License, What is IT-Wallet and How Does It Work?
THEIT-Wallet It is a real digital wallet that allows you to store official documents with legal value directly on your smartphone. In addition to the driver's license and health card, in the future it will also be possible to add other documents, such as the electronic health record and digital certificates.
The aim is to eliminate the need for paper versions, facilitating access to public services and improving the efficiency of personal data management.

To use the IT-Wallet, simply log in to the app IO means SPID o Electronic Identity Card (CIE). In the “Wallet” section of the app, documents can be easily uploaded and managed in a few simple steps.
In the initial phase, the service is available only for the first 50.000 citizens selected, who will receive a notification directly on the app. By 4 December 2024, all Italian citizens will be able to access the service.
Next steps of the launch
The adoption of the IT-Wallet will be progressive:
- 6th November 2024: 250.000 users will be invited to participate in the test.
- 20th November 2024: the project will expand to one million citizens.
- 4 December 2024: The IT-Wallet will be available to everyone.
