Bezzecchi wins at Mugello: an Italian dream realized in front of 180 fans.

For an Italian rider, there's only one race that's worth more than all the others. And that's his home race. On Sunday, May 31st, at the Tuscan Mugello circuit, Marco Bezzecchi made his childhood dream a reality: winning the Italian MotoGP Grand Prix in front of his home crowd.

Winning elsewhere isn't the same as winning at Mugello. Not for those who grew up in Italy, not for those whose parents took them to the stands to cheer as kids. The 27-year-old from Rimini knows this well, and when he crossed the finish line first, after twenty-three perfect laps, he experienced something that went beyond sport.

"Winning here is a dream I've had since I was a child," he said after the race. It was the first time in his career that he had won on the Tuscan circuit, the temple of Italian motorcycling, which for every local rider is almost a childhood home.

A tricolour victory at all levels

The beauty of this day is that Italy won on every front. Bezzecchi triumphed aboard an Italian motorcycle, the Aprilia, which secured a historic one-two finish: behind him, in second place, was teammate Jorge Martin, while the third step of the podium went to another Italian, Francesco "Pecco" Bagnaia, on a Ducati.

An Italian driver, on an Italian motorcycle, facing another Italian motorsport talent: it's hard to imagine a more Italian Sunday. And waving the checkered flag was another face of our motorsports, the young Kimi Antonelli, bringing an all-Italian celebration to a close.

The public of great occasions

A sea of people provided the backdrop. Over the weekend, nearly 180 people filled the stands and meadows of the Tuscan hills, an all-time record for the course. Italian flags as far as the eye could see, a constant roar, that boost that only the warmth of home can provide.

Bezzecchi admitted he felt the full weight of expectations: the fans expected a lot from him, and he felt the responsibility not to disappoint them. But in the end, he confessed, it was precisely that love from the fans that gave him the decisive push.

A special helmet, a message for all Italians

There is a detail that made this victory even more intense. Throughout the weekend Bezzecchi raced with a helmet dedicated to Alex Zanardi, the unforgettable champion who began his motorsport adventure with motorcycles, before becoming a symbol of strength and resilience recognized throughout the world.

"It was an important message for me and for all Italians," the driver explained. A heartfelt tribute, a way to ideally bring back to the top step of the podium a man whose story taught us to never give up. A gesture deeply appreciated by the Zanardi family.

Now the head of the World Cup

Beyond the emotions, the numbers remain. With this success Bezzecchi consolidates his position at the top of the standings, moving to a 17-point lead over rival Martin. The 2026 season sees him as the undisputed protagonist, and the next challenge is already around the corner: the Hungarian GP, scheduled for June 5-7.

But whatever happens from here on, a chapter has already been written. That of a Sunday in late May when a boy from Rimini realized his childhood dream, in the heart of Tuscany, in front of one hundred and eighty thousand celebrating Italians. At Mugello, where every victory carries double weight.
