Temperatures are dropping, beach holidays are becoming a distant memory, schools are reopening, and we're returning to our old, beloved winter habits. Including going to the movies.

Fall 2025 promises to be a particularly lively season in Italian theaters, with a diverse lineup ranging from animation to anime, from comedy to drama, all the way to major international blockbusters.

Cinema: What's coming in September-October?

According to this month's film release calendar, we find very different titles, intended for varied audiences, released recently or coming out in the next few days.

  • One thing leads, which tells the story of Antonio Schiattaro, a dairy entrepreneur from the province of Caserta
  • Caffeine of the world, out September 15th
  • Downhill by Sandro Torella A large series of films including documentary-concerts, comedies, dramas and foreign films (such as Grand Prix, The Condominium Meeting, My Friend the Penguin)

Starting October 9th, the offerings will intensify with titles of great international appeal:

  • Tron: Ares, a science fiction adventure film from Walt Disney Studios, with high-tech themes and spectacular visuals.
  • Great Charlie, animated/comedy family film
  • Three bowls, a drama starring Elio Germano and Alba Rohrwacher distributed by Vision Distribution
  • An imperfect crime, crime comedy/thriller
  • The Chorus Girl, a local drama film In general.

Fall seems to be focusing on blockbusters and familiar titles, but it's also not shying away from works starring big-name Italian actors and less predictable stories. The season opens with a very diverse offering, capable of satisfying both younger viewers interested in animation and anime, and those seeking more adult or thoughtful stories.

Then, between November and December, there will be big upcoming titles. Among these, much anticipated is Zootopia 2, due out on November 26th. This Disney animated sequel is expected to appeal to families and animation fans, and Checco Zalone's new film, Buen Camino, will be released in theaters on December 25, 2025.

Audience appreciation is a key variable: theatrical success will depend largely on how these titles manage to gain recognition, especially during a time of year when, after the summer, many viewers are looking for a variety of offerings, including light entertainment and films with more narrative depth.
