Albanian doctors to help the Italian health workers struggling with one of the worst pandemics in history. There are about thirty of them, doctors and nurses, and they came from nearby Albania to work in the ward. Truly a special mission to help our doctors and nurses exhausted by weeks living in the 'trenches' in wards full of infected with Coronavirus.

Days and days in the intensive care wards, with endless shifts, to try to save thousands of people affected by the powerful Covid-19 which is claiming victims all over the world. The Italian doctors are an example for the whole world but they are really exhausted and the Albanian colleagues have not thought twice about running to their aid and in support of the sick.

Albanian doctors on a mission

The doctors and nurses from Albania arrived yesterday at Fiumicino airport. Today they landed at Verona's “Valerio Catullo” airport, which was reopened only for this extraordinary occasion. The Albanian health workers will serve the Civil Hospitals of Brescia which is one of the Italian cities most affected by the pandemic of Coronavirus.

At Fiumicino they were welcomed by the Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio; on the flight to Brescia they were accompanied by the Minister for Regional Affairs Francesco Boccia. The Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte, on his Twitter profile, he thanked his Albanian counterpart Edi Rama and the whole delegation of health workers who came to the rescue of his Italian colleagues.

Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and his message to Italy

“It is true that everyone is locked up within their borders, even very rich countries have turned their backs on others. But we cannot afford not to show Italy that Albanians and Albania never abandon their friend in difficulty ". This is an excerpt from the message of the Albanian prime minister who underlined: “To someone in Albania it will seem strange that thirty doctors and nurses from our little army in white uniforms leave for the line of fire in Italy. Thirty doctors and nurses will not resolve the relationship between the deadly force of the invisible enemy and the forces in white clothing that are fighting him in the line of fire on that side of the sea.

But I also know that it's our home down there since our Italian brothers saved us. Since they hosted and adopted us in their home when Albania was in immense pain. We are fighting the same invisible enemy and the human and logistical resources of our war are not unlimited. But we cannot keep the reserve forces waiting for them to be called, while in Italy, where Albanians wounded by the enemy are being treated in war hospitals, they are in enormous need of help. Today we are all Italians. And Italy must win this war, also for us, for Europe and for the whole world".

Greetings from the governor of Lombardy Attilio Fontana

"Thanks for the concrete help in a very complicated moment for Lombardy - said Governor Fontana - You are the testimony of the friendship that binds Italy to Albania. I am sure you can help ease the work of our outstanding health representatives. Doctors and nurses who have shown their dedication and ability in recent weeks. Excellence beyond imaginable.

We hope that the situation will improve so that soon we can start thinking about the restart. I repeat to our citizens that we cannot give up, because otherwise we would risk falling back into the dark. And we can't afford it ".
