Every November 25th, the world stops to remember that violence against women is not a sudden emergency, but a structural wound, rooted in society and its inequalities. The International Day for the elimination of violence against women It's an opportunity to reflect, give voice to victims, support those who fight every day, and, above all, promote a cultural change that starts with everyone.
One day, many sad stories
In Italy the numbers remain dramatic: femicides, mistreatment, psychological and economic violence continue to mark the lives of thousands of women.
For this reason, every November 25th, demonstrations, flash mobs, school meetings, artistic performances, and training sessions are organized in many cities. The red benches become a visible symbol of remembrance, while the red shoes in the squares remember the women who are no longer with us. The message is one: violence is not a private matter, but a collective problem.
We need education on respect, support for anti-violence centers, training for workers, and above all, ongoing cultural outreach.
Lots of information on TV too
Television, with its ability to reach millions of people, has been dedicating space to this day for years through special programs, in-depth features, testimonials, social campaigns, and awareness-raising marathons. Every year, Rai, Mediaset, and Sky broadcast institutional commercials with emergency numbers (1522), messages of male responsibility, and calls to recognize the signs of psychological violence, often invisible but devastating. The color red—clothes, lipstick, facial markings, ribbons—appears in studios and in promos as a symbol of struggle. And there's no shortage of in-depth programs for young people and families. Some broadcasts offer dedicated formats: debates in schools, talks by educators, explanations of the mechanisms of emotional violence and control, reflections on the role of social media and hate speech.
Each of us, as spectators and as citizens, can do our part: listen, support, and not turn away.
