Today is Dantedì, an anniversary that celebrates the memory of Dante Alighieri, one of the greatest poets of Italian literature, author of the Divine Comedy, a pillar of Italian culture still studied throughout the world today. Established in 2020 by the Council of Ministers, in anticipation of the seven hundredth anniversary of the death of the Supreme Poet, Dantedì is celebrated on March 25th each year. The motivation is simple: tradition believes that on this day, in the year 1300, Dante began writing his journey into the "dark forest".
Cultural initiatives throughout Italy

The occasion, which returns for its fifth edition, is remembered with many initiatives, including online, organized by schools, students and cultural institutions. A series of art, theatre, music and poetry, artificial intelligence and special opening events will take place throughout Italy, with the aim of enhancing and promoting Dante's cultural legacy.

In Ravenna, the city where the Supreme Poet is buried, the Dantedì celebrations begin this morning at 9am, with the reading of the First Canto of "Purgatory" in front of his monumental tomb. At 15am, in the Dante Hall of the Classense Library, Giuseppe Ledda, professor of Italian literature at the University of Bologna, will speak to students about the importance of participation in public life, taking Dante as a model of citizenship. At 11:30, in Dante House, the new classrooms intended for teaching will be inaugurated.
This will be followed in the afternoon, at Classense, by the presentation of the anastatic edition of "Dante's Third Rimes (1502-2021)", published by the Olschki publishing house.
